Two late goals from Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard secured England's place in the next round of the World Cup

Crouch and Lampard missed several kicks at goal but in the 83rd minute David Beckham's right-wing cross found Crouch and he put in a high header past Shaka Hislop.

Gerrard sealed the win in stoppage time with a left footed stunner after Trinidad & Tobago held England off for most of the game.

The match was helter-skelter stuff going back and forth but the majority of the game was spent in the T&T half. England's goalkeeper Robinson probably only touched the ball four or five times.

With the crowd shouting "Rooney! Rooney! Rooney!", in the 59th minute as England fans were starting to accept the idea of a draw Eriksson brought on Wayne Rooney and Aaron Lennon. Beckham dropped back a little and the game went up a notch. Ironically Rooney was nowhere near when England's goals were scored.

This England side is different from past England teams. They have won a reputation for delivering their best football in the first 45 minutes of matches and prior to this match they had never scored a second-half World Cup goal under Sven-Goran Eriksson.

England have also never previously won both of their two opening matches.

Both of England's goals came late in the second half smashing past records and providing more fuel to the fire for England fans saying this year will be different.

Japanese referee Toru Kamikawa didn't have too good a match and failed to see Peter Crouch being held and restricted several times outside the T&T goal. At one point Crouch told the ref that his opposite came close to removing his shirt.

David Beckhams crosses weren't all on target but they were good enough for FIFA to name him man of the match.

England who are now through to the round of 16 will play Sweden on Tuesday next week and that match could well decide who finishes at the top of Group B.
