2010 Football World cup squads

One of the favourites to win the World cup, France failed to score a goal in their opener and drew with Switzerland. Both teams failed to get going and struggled in the stifling heat.

The Swiss came very close to scoring but Alexander Frei messed up and easy chance and then substitute Daniel Gygax's header was stopped by Fabien Barthez.

It hasn't been a bad World cup so far with the goals per game average at 2.5 but France and Switzerland did their best to bring it down.

The teams spent a lot of time passing the ball around and there were only 7 shots at goal in the whole match.

Henry was denied a penalty when his shot was handled by Patrick Mueller but the ref said there was no penalty. The ref didn't have a particularly consistent match on the whole.

After 70 minutes France tried to change their formula as it clearly was not working and made their first change when Manchester United striker Louis Saha came on for Franck Ribery.

It didn't change the outcome ad the sides drew 0-0.

France were probably marginally the better side but not by much. Either side could have taken this one and the three points.

What will be very worrying for France is that they have not scored a World cup goal since the 1998 World cup final where they won 3-0. In 2002 they left the tournament early after going down 1-0 to Senegal in their opener then drawing 0-0 with Uruguay and finally losing 2-0 to Denmark.

The Korea Republic are now top of Group G after their great performance earlier today against Togo.

One part of the match France did come off better only having three players carded to Switzerland's five.
