England coach Fabio Capello says David Beckham is likely to miss the World Cup after the midfielder ruptured his Achilles tendon Sunday while playing for AC Milan.
Beckham is flying to Finland for an operation later Monday, but has little hope of recovering in time for the World Cup, which begins in less than three months.
Capello said Monday that "we have to wait for the results of the scan, but it looks like he is out of the World Cup."
Capello spoke with the 34-year-old Beckham after he was injured during Milan's win over Chievo Verona.
With only a few minutes remaining, Beckham was by himself with the ball at his feet, shifted his weight and injured his left heel.
