Bruce Arena hired as Galaxy coach

Former United States coach Bruce Arena has been hired as coach of David Beckham's Los Angeles Galaxy, who haven't won a game in over two months.

Arena was to be introduced at a news conference later Monday after guiding the team through practice for the first time. He will make his debut as the Galaxy coach Thursday night against the Chicago Fire.

Arena succeeds Ruud Gullit, who resigned last Monday for personal reasons. President and general manager Alexi Lalas was fired the same day.
