Middlesbrough are set to sign Justin Hoyte from Arsenal after their bid for the defender was accepted on Thursday.
Hoyte, 23, will discuss personal terms with the Premier League club this week but Middlesbrough are unlikely to complete the deal, believed to be worth around three million pounds (3.7 million euros), in time for their Premier League opener against Tottenham on Saturday.
Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate moved for Hoyte after selling England right-back Luke Young to Aston Villa earlier this month.
"We have agreed a fee with Arsenal and we have now been given permission to Justin which we will be doing in the next 24-48 hours," Middlesbrough chief executive Keith Lamb told the club's website.
Hoyte, who was an unused substitute for Arsenal's midweek Champions League win over FC Twente, has made 68 appearance in five years with the Gunners.
