Irvin Khoza commended First National Bank for their support and promotion of the 2010 World Cup when they attempted to set a Guinness world record by amassing 150 000 soccer balls in one place over two days.
Khoza, the chairman of the South African local organising committee (SALOC) of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, was at FNB's Bank City in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning for the launch of the program.
"We (LOC) are proud to have a sponsor like FNB and we're very happy with their innovation when it comes to promoting the World Cup," he said.
"Their involvement further dispels the rhetoric of plan B and we commend them," Khoza said with reference to Fifa president Sepp Blatter's recent comments about having a contingency plan in case South Africa should not be able to host the first World Cup tournament in Africa.
He then added: "FNB should also start a culture of rewarding people for saving money, that is something I'd like to see happening here." The 150 000 balls are held in two 30-metre high spheres weighing a massive 30 tons.
