South Africa soccer coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has quit, two years before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Parreira says he wants to return to his native Brazil to be with his family.
Parreira and leaders of the South African Football Association announced the resignation at a news conference Monday.
He was hired 16 months ago after resigning as Brazil coach. He put together a young and inexperienced team which suffered a series of poor results but recently won a friendly against Paraguay.
