The KwaZulu Natal provincial government has confirmed that construction at the site has not stopped, as reported by some media.
The KwaZulu-Natal Cabinet received a report Wednesday, on the safety Issues reported in the media and which arose out of a visit by the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Labour on Monday.
The provincial government spokesperson, Cecil Msomi told BuaNews that the issues identified during the DD-G's visit were not of a nature which required construction to be halted.
"Those things have been attended to the same day and the construction did not stop. Construction is still underway as we speak," he said.
"Unfortunately media reports portrayed an incorrect impression that work on the site had stopped and that the construction may not be completed on time," Mr Msomi added.
The provincial cabinet has been re-assured that all of the prohibition notices have been withdrawn and the construction of Moses Mabhida Stadium remains the flagship project of the province.
"Cabinet believes that while the safety of workers is paramount but we must avoid sensationalising matters.
"We received an assurance that both the contractors and the eThekwini Municipality take safety very seriously," the provincial government said.
This, government said, was evidenced by the receipt of a "highly commended" award from the Master Builder's Association for the safety work being done at the Stadium.
Cabinet expressed its support and the need to ensure all occupational health and safety laws in the construction of the stadium were adhered to.
