TV Globo has guaranteed Brazilian broadcast rights for the next two FIFA World Cups.
The deal covers the 2010 event in South Africa and the 2014 tournament which will be held in South America – with Brazil currently favourite, but not certain, to play host.
By terms of the contract, no costs can be released.
A TV Globo spokesman said: “FIFA based the decision on the solidity of the proposal in relation to the economic realities of the Brazilian market and on the outstanding technical ability of the TV Globo to broadcast the event.”
