The SA Football Association (Safa) and a Netherlands based body are to sign an agreement on Friday, to unlock opportunities for six identified communities in the Western Cape.
The agreement between the provincial government, Safa and the Netherlands Stars In Their Eyes Foundation will see the communities benefiting in football skills ahead of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Endorsed by the National Ministry of Sport and Recreation, Fifa accredited coaches will come to share their skills and expertise with six clubs in each of the regions in the province.
This will also include twinning agreements with schools and communities in a wide range of development initiatives such as community building workshops, capacity and leadership training programmes, schools exchange programmes and e-learning projects.
This project, the brainchild of the Stars in Their Eyes Foundation stands to benefit 40 communities by 2010 when it is in full swing, said the provincial cultural affairs, sport and recreation department.
The department said the number of communities identified in the launch phase would be increased progressively.
"The project will be biased towards the rural and poor urban communities, to ensure that sustainable development was accessible to the marginalised," it said.
MEC Whitey Jacobs said as government they would provide all the necessary support, to ensure this "critical intervention" was a success.
"It is up to Safa to put their shoulder to the wheel to make sure that they help identify these communities".
Mr Jacobs, the six Safa regional presidents and the directors of Stars in their Eyes Foundation will attend the signing ceremony.
