Swedens Freddie Ljungberg gave the Swedish their first goal and first victory of the 2006 World cup. Sweden dominated the first half but at the break it was still 0-0.
In the second half Paraguay had some very good spells and the impotus appeared to be with the Paraguayans. Then with two minutes to go Ljungberg who plays for Arsenal popped up at the far post to head home after Marcus Allback had put a centre back across goal.
Overall Sweden were marginally the better team but it was a close match and the final score Sweden 1 Paraguay 0.
Sweden will know that they have to beat England on Tuesday to secure top place in Group B. England are assured a place in the second round.
England top the group with six points from two games after beating Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 earlier. All England need is a draw to stay on top but should Sweden beat them England would come second.
